All assignments are due on the date stated regardless of school functions (sectionals), field trips, or out of class projects. The only excused reason is illness.

- Try your hardest
- Maintain a C average at all times (students falling below a C will need to come in for extra help)

MUG Shot SentencesMUG stands for Mechanics, Usage, Grammar
- Mon.-Thurs. you will get a sentence to edit. You have two minutes from the start of class.
- Friday you will be given a paragraph that incorporates the week’s skills on the back of the stems quiz.
- Notes for MUG Sentences will be kept in the classroom.
Writer’s Notebook
1. All of your in-class writing will take place in this online notebook.
2. This should be kept neat and organized; it is a symbol of who you are as a writer.
Stems/Spelling
1. Spelling - Throughout the year we will be studying a list of 100 spelling words.
2. Stems - On Monday, a set of 10 vocabulary stem words will be assigned.
- Stems lists are due either Thursday.
- Stems are worth 10 points - one point per correctly completed stem.
- Stems quizzes on Friday.
- Larger review tests are given throughout the year.

Formal Papers
1.Write at least a three-paragraph essay, unless told otherwise.
2.Final copy must be printed, double spaced, 12-point font, plain style only such as Times New Roman.
3.A rubric incorporating the 6 traits will be used as assessment for your formal papers.
Grammar & Sentence Writing Strategies
This material will be studied all year using whole class and individual mini-lessons.
Poetry
You will read/analyze a number of poems before writing some of your own.
Speaking & Listening
You will read/listen to a number of famous speeches. You will be giving 3 -4 speeches. One will require formal attire.
