Grading/Homework All assignments are due on the date stated regardless of school functions (sectionals), field trips, or out of class projects. The only excused reason is illness. Journals will be assigned at the start of the unit. Journals will be collected at some point toward the end of the unit and graded. Grading Assessments - 50% Labs/Projects - 30% Homework/Classwork - 20% Materials iPad Folder/Binder Lab Journal (this year we are going to try an electronic version) Pen/Pencil Rules & Expectations - All students must follow Lab Safety procedures at all times - Try your hardest - Maintain a C average at all times (students falling below a C will need to come in for extra help) - Bring a charged iPad to class every day Course Description This year will be our second year with our new science curriculum STEMscopes! The STEM in STEMscopes stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This student-centered way of learning includes many problem-based learning (PBL) opportunities and engineering challenges that allow students to construct their own knowledge of what they are learning. This course will cover a variety of topics within all areas of science. *Scientific Method *Proper lab safety techniques and procedures *Life Science focusing on ecology and evolution *Basics of chemistry focusing on types of bonds and chemical reactions *Basics of physics focusing on waves, sound and light We will supplement the Stemscope curriculum with the Glencoe textbook, Science World Magazine, and CK-12. This year we will start with our Physics unit! |
